Biologisk mångfald på skolgården
Djur & Natur
This is a topic that concerns many students in our school, their life, their needs and natural habitat.
It is important for all to understand that we are a part of the same chain, protecting animals is essentially protecting ourselves.
We will raise awareness on how we can learn more facts about animals and know what we can do more to protect their natural environment. Students want to sketch animals, visit farms and learn biological facts about them.
The students themselves choose the animals they work to sketch in art classes, as well as being active participators in school visits to different places outdoors that animals exist. Making birdhouses in woodcraft and craft lessons was also raised as well.
-lesson which include similar topics and class discussion -birdhouses making in woodcraft and craft lessons -art related projects
klimat och energi
Klimat & Energi
-Students will be exposed to discussions on sustainable energy and the reasons why this is important.
Using energy and finding its limitations, exploring the resources that we use now and discover the alternatives that are more sustainable for the environment.
-class discussions in Science lessons - visit elektrolux factory -mapping the resources of our own building and the kommun practices on the matter.
Participate in class discussions, study on projects that are linked to climate resources-
Directly on the science curriculum, as well as technology one.
Skräpp och avfall
Skräp & Avfall
Observing our school surrounding and especially the food waste that takes place after every meal, we considered that it is an important thing to focus on this year.
Littering is bad for the environment and wasting food is like wasting money.
Forms to all students on what food they like best from the restaurant options, food surpervisor to control the plate waste, questionnaires on food waste and awareness of the negative effects, posters in the school on food waste.
Class representatives are responsible to raise awareness of all school issues in their classes, collecting data and then processing them along with their classmate and green flag råd. Kitchen chef meeting with green falg council and representatives.
Understanding the financial aspect behind the plate waste, as well as the ethical one. Respecting the environment and our own surroundings by taking part in disposing correclty all kinds of waste.

The students of various year groups went out in the school yard and surrounding neighbourhood, collecting trash and cleaning out the public area.
Very well!
the whole earea surrounding the school became impeccable.
Students were engaged, and happy to be contributing in a practical way and hand on way.
The sticks that help you pick up trash became a students' favorite.
We tried to create an open channel of communication between the kitchen staff and the teachers- students. The process was that the chef woul keep us updated on the food waste of every week sending a speadsheet with the facts. I would later on compile a poster associating the kilo waste with an animal. The poster would be posted next to the bin of the food waste, visible in the lunch hall for all to see. If the waste would go under a specific number, students would recieve a dessert as a treat from the kicthen, something that was achived once in the term.
Was very challenging process, maybe next year could be more streamlined and more embraced by teachers and school management. It was one of the hardest issues to get results.
Not very satisfied. This challenge needs more manpower and a more structured apporach.
The students were thrilled with the dessert they were offered once. But it is hard to maintain a standard with the food waste.
This issue needs everyone in school involved, so it could be very tricky finding the time to meet and plan with staff from kichen, management, reception, and on the top of it communicate it to students and keep them motivated for the challege.
The students created posters were they showcase acts of caring for the environment. The artworks were created in ink on A3 paper. First, the students took a photo of each other, later, they received it printed and they enlarged it with the aid of the square transfer technique, and lastly, shaded it with ink techniques.
The students enjoyed the theme, discussions around that and the process.
Results were varied, showcasing different acts of love and care for the environment.
The students found the project interesting but that required also a high level of commiment and high pace work.
The students repeated at the start same scenes of caring for the environment, such as panting. They would be benefited from a list of different acts, so they would get a wider range of ideas starting this project.
Birdhouses in woodwork lessons, a project that involved all year 7 students of our school.
Project Report: Official Birdhouse Handover (Year 7) On April 14th, Year 7 students reached a major milestone in their collaboration with Stockholm Stad. In a ceremony held in the woodwork room, the students officially handed over their handcrafted birdhouses to city representatives, marking the culmination of weeks of hard work and environmental stewardship.
Impact by the Numbers Stockholm Stad expressed immense gratitude for the quality and aesthetic beauty of the builds. The variety of homes will provide critical nesting space for a wide range of local wildlife:
2 Large Houses: Tawny Owls
6 Houses: Eurasian Pygmy Owls
24 Houses: Tits (Blue, Coal, Willow, and Great Tits)
20 Houses: Starlings
3 Specialized Houses: Swifts
A Lasting Legacy The students were shown the exact map location where their birdhouses will be installed next week. To make the project even more personal, each student was invited to write their name on the bottom of their birdhouse. This ensures that as these houses are placed throughout the community, students will be able to recognize their own specific contribution to Stockholm’s biodiversity for years to come. The city representatives were incredibly impressed with the craftsmanship and the beauty of the birdhouses. It is clear that Year 7 has made a tangible difference in strengthening our local ecosystem."
Connecting to Urban Planning This project went beyond simple construction. During the handover, students learned how their work fits into the official city planning framework. They were introduced to the Planbeskrivning (Laga kraft 2022-07-18), understanding the legal and structural guidelines that govern how our city grows while protecting nature.
The students explored the Naturvärdesinventering (NVI) provided by Calluna. This ecological inventory helped them understand the "nature value" of our local area and why specific bird species were targeted for support.
A fantastic project that made all students keep a good working pace, while also contributing to the kommun in such an impactful way.
The students created posters around envoronmental topics: reusing, recycling and were the focus points of the posters. The year 8 students worked for three hours on those posters.
The students showed through various results that were enganged with the topics and many interesting conversations arose.
Intersting posters
The students enjoyed working on those posters and also seemed very keen on the topics of discussion raised around envoronmental concerns.
This was tested for the first time and went very smoothly for all students.
The students created collages with animals in their natural environment. The students used coloured papers but no pencils. They drew with scissors, without following any contour line, inspired from Matisse.
It went very well, students at first had a hard time not draing first the scene that they had in mind with pencil, but they learned to embrace a new method slowly and with time.
A variety of paper collages, each one telling a unique story about an imaginary scene.
he students enjoyed tremendously the freedom of drawing with scissors. They found it a bit challenging at the start, but it got easier and more fun as they let go and came up with more ideas.
I would recommend to offer a wider variety of coloured papers.
ESA Climate Detectives – Project Published! The students in both year 7 and year 8 have successfully completed the European Space Agency (ESA) Climate Detectives project, and their research has now been officially published on the ESA Climate Detectives platform.
From September to March, we worked together on a research project titled: “Beneath the Surface: A Physico-Chemical Investigation of Lake Drevviken”
Throughout the project, the students investigated real-world environmental data, developed their scientific thinking, and worked collaboratively to analyse and present their findings.
This is a great achievement, as their work is now published internationally and represents our school.
The real date research motivated the students and the recognition after the successful completion was amazing for them.
International recognition for the year 7 students of our school.
The enjoyed the process tremendously.

The students attempted to create envoronmental campaigns, they were the ones deciding the theme, the medium and the ways of showcasing their topic.
It went well, students were able to finish their own works and had time at the end of the term for peer feedback and class presentations.
A varied and very interesting mix of body of work.
Students are very sensitive towards the environmement and had many perspectives on themes and the visual ways employed to communicated their thoughts.
This project works best if the teacher allows at least 10 hours of teaching time.
It was exciting to create new projects with the support of the students, who actively participated in school decisions, workshops and seminars.
The Science detectives project, the Elektrolux seminar Food Heroes and the birdhouses that students made for Stockholms Stad were definitely the highlights of this journey.
The students were the ones to execute actively all projects, discuss the different perspectives on sustainablility issues, and influence various aspects of school life, like for example changes in the food menu, through suveys, discussions with the chef etc.
We saw that the students enjoyed the most this journey when there was a connection with the life outside school: A seminar that took them to an utflykt, a handover to the kommun, a practical help through skäpplockning etc. The students enjoy the most when they see that what they learn in class can have palpable connection to the society.
This happens at every chance when students work on a process based project, but the case where they had the mkst influence was when we opened the channels of communication bewteen them and the kitchen staff in oreder to reduce waste.
The students were thrilled with the projects that gave them recognition outside of the class envrironment and we will work actively on that path in the future.
