Vad
To increase the amount of paper and plastic being recycled in our school.
We continued to reduce our use of paper in our school this year. We did this by reducing the amount of paperwork sent home, opting for email and sharing information via schoolsoft instead. The Green Flag committee made presentation to the teachers to give them ideas about how to reduce paper and to think before printing worksheets. The Green Flag committee made paper recycling boxes for every classroom, and PANT boxes for different areas of the school. The school principal bought us new plastic recycling bins to encourage plastic recycling in the student and staff rooms. We put a glass recycling box in the staff room. The Green Flag committee helped to bring the PANT bottles and cans to the local COOP supermarket where we donated the money to VI I SKOGEN, a charity that helps to build trees. They also helped to bring the plastic recycling to the local plastic recycling bins.

To teach the students and teachers the importance of recycling and not wasting raw materials.

Vad
The Green flag committee voted on which three areas they want to focus on this year. They voted for Oceans and Water, Rubbish and Recycling and Animals and Nature. The Oceans and Water one is the most difficult as we are not beside any ocean or water but the students have some ideas and we will think of more ideas throughout the year.
Varför
The students want to learn more about how important the oceans are for our planet.
Hur
We will talk to the kitchen and caretaker about saving water.
We will talk to the kitchen about serving more vegetarian food as this saves water.
The students will learn more about the oceans and seas and focus on the Baltic Sea
Delaktighet och inflytande
The older students will be in the meeting with the Food Council and the school kitchen.
The Green Flag students will all go the the aquarium in Skansen to learn more about the Baltic Sea.

Vad
To increase the amount of bird, animal and insect life around the school through building Winter Bird Feeders, picking up rubbish and planting bee and butterfly - friendly plants around the school.

To encourage the students to respect the nature around our school.

They will bring in empty milk cartons and make the bird feeders.
All students in the school are invited to join in the Gardening Club to plant seeds and flowers.
Each Year 6 class will be given a flower to look after in the weeks up to Christmas.
Autumn and Spring Photo competitions open to the whole school to increase the students' awareness of nature and the changing of the seasons in their area.

This will lead to greater biodiversity around our school and encourage the students to see the value of biodiversity around the area they live in too.

It went very well. All students in our school are used to recycling paper and plastic now. The teachers are good to remind them too.
Vad blev resultatet?
Less paper being bought and used by the school. About ten large sacks of plastic waste recycled every school term in our staff room and science lab. About 350 kr donated to Vi i Skogen when we bring the PANT to COOP.

They like doing the PANT and recycling with me outside of school.

Picking up rubbish!

Vad gjorde vi?
In collaboration with Svevia, 15 classes across our school picked up rubbish in a given area of Farsta for one hour. The Green Flag committee also collaborated with a local icecream shop - we picked up rubbish in the local area and they gave us icecream!

It went very well.
Vad blev resultatet?
Our local area is cleaner and the students have hopefully learned not to throw rubbish on the ground.

They enjoyed it and thought it was interesting to see what people threw away.

Vad gjorde vi?
We held a photo competition in the Autumn and Spring for students to notice the nature around them and submit photos. The Green Flag committee voted on their favourite photos and the winners won prizes and their photos were shown on the school TV.
Hur gick det?
It went really well. We had 35-40 entries from across the school year groups.
Vad blev resultatet?
Hopefully many students saw and will continue to see the beauty in the nature around them.

Vad gjorde vi?
The Green Flag committee planted and replanted flower boxes for the entrance of our school to suit the different seasons. For example, we planted heathers for the Winter season, daffodils for the Spring season and lobelia and marigolds for the Summer season. We chose one area of the school garden to plant Bee and Butterfly- friendly wild flowers to try to create a wild flower area of the garden. At various times of the year the students helped to weed and fix up the school garden. They have taken pride in the school garden and how well it looks! When we wanted to plant more flower boxes around the school, our caretaker found old flower boxes in the basement and we fixed them up to use instead of buying new ones.

It went very well. the students really enjoyed planing flowers and took pride in how well it looked. It makes them smile as they enter the school, some students said!
Vad blev resultatet?
The students learned how to plant flowers, how to dig up the soil, how not to be afraid of getting soil on their hands, and how to be proud of what they have done.

Making Bird Feeders

Vad gjorde vi?
The students brought in empty milk cartons and we cut holes in them, hung string across the top, and filled them with oats and seeds and hung them outside the school. During the winter we filled them up several times to encourage birdlife around our school.

The students liked to make the bird feeders and fill them up and see the birds coming.
Vad blev resultatet?
More birds around our school and more students made bird feeders to hang up at home.

Upcycling Project

Vad gjorde vi?
We had a whole school focus on upcycling to teach the students what it is and to encourage it. We held a competition to see what they students could upcycle at home and send in photos of their projects.

It went very well. The students were very creative!
Vad blev resultatet?
Students will think about how to reuse and upcycle objects instead of throwing them away and buying new ones.

On the 21st of January 2026, our IESE Green Flag committee visited the Baltic Sea Center in Skansen. The students had a science lesson in their labs, where they examined and discussed different plants and animals that live in the Baltic Sea. They also had time to explore the aquarium and discovery center to learn lots about the Baltic Sea!

Utvärdering
Hållbar utveckling
We believe our work has led to a lot of sustainable development in our school and surrounding area. We were very focussed on the sustainable development goals all year, and we were involved in many different activities, as outlined in our activities section. Our overall main achievements were: -reducing the amount of paper used in our school -increasing the amount of paper and plastic recycled in our school - feeding the local birds during the cold winter months -increasing the awareness amongst all students of the sustainable development goals, local animal and plant life, recycling facilities, up-cycling possibilities, endangered animals, renewable energy sources and issues with food waste -helping students to focus on the natural environment around the school by planting flowers and picking up rubbish -helping students to feel and see that they can make a difference.
Lärdomar
We believe that our work really helps to encourage sustainabilty in our school. It is discussed in NO lessons and SO lessons and Hemkunskap lessons and next year I want it to be even more widespread across the school, encouraging all teachers to talk about sustainability within their subject.
Delaktighet och inflytande
The Green Flag council met every Monday from 08.45-9.00 with Ms Clare King. We used that time to discuss projects and plan when to do them. Then we picked a time during the week that would be suitable for that activity. The rest of the students participated in different ways - reading noticeboards, joining in the Green Flag BINGO game, recycling plastic and paper, helping with planting seeds and plant, participating in sustainable science projects, making fat cakes and bird feeders for the birds, taking part in nature quizzes and nature photography competitions. Our two excursions - to The Baltic Sea Center and to the Butterfly House in Solna - were wo highlights for the students who were delighted to be involved in these daytrips outside the school!
Lärdomar
It is a very early time on a Monday morning but the students who are dedicated do come along and are active. We get a lot doen in the short space of time we are together. We will definitely go to The Baltic Sea Center again next year as that was a big hit!
Handlingskompetens
The students came up with great ideas for the administration team regarding paper reduction and were delighted to see their ideas taken on and kept on this year. When we were picking up rubbish in the local area , many passers-by commented on what we were doing and praised the students and the students were happy with themselves and really felt they were making a difference. The students could see the positive outcomes of the effort they made with the planting! Many teachers commented on how nice the plants were and how it really brightened up the entrance to the school. The students really enjoyed getting positive feedback.
Lärdomar
The students suggested about going to The Baltic Sea Center and The Butterfly House and were delighted to see their ideas come to life. I let the student vote on many activities that we do so it really feels like they drive it and they feel listened to. There are some year 8 and 9 students who have been involved in the Green Flag project since year 4 and therefore are confident to speak their minds and have great ideas to contribute. They are great role models for the younger students.
